County Auditor's Responsibility for Weights and Measures
The County Auditor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all weighing and measuring devices within the county, as outlined in Ohio Administrative Code Rule 901:6-9-01. To fulfill this duty, the County Auditor appoints a qualified inspector to carry out inspections and tests on a variety of commercial devices and practices, including but not limited to:
Testing gas pumps and store scales to ensure they provide accurate measurements
Inspecting products sold by weight to verify correct labeling and pricing
Ensuring store registers scan and display prices accurately as advertised
All measuring and weighing devices are inspected annually. The primary objective of these inspections is to protect consumers from fraudulent pricing practices and to ensure fair transactions in the marketplace.
